AGNES HANSELLA

A self taught artist, with a background in sound engineering. She was born in Banjarmasin and grew up in Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan. She graduated from her Diploma studies in sound design at Vancouver Film School Canada and earn her bachelor's degree from the Jakarta Institute of Arts, majoring in audio for Cinema. In 2017 she shifted her interest to macramé, and has been knotting ever since. Her work explores materials, patterns and 3D shapes. Agnes now lives and work in South Jakarta, Indonesia.

MOUNTAIN, OCEAN, and SUNSET

Commissioned by Flowerblooms Studio for Locca Bali Locca Jimbaran, Bali 2020

Three enormous macrame trio titled Mountain, Ocean, and Sunset spands 11 meters long in Locca Jimbaran-Bali, Indonesia. Each of the knotted works cloaked the open-air structure in fringed fibers that evoke the coastal surroundings of Jimbaran. Agnes uses 16mm manila rope and goni to create pattern that resembles waves, corals, mountain and birds. The rope is cut with hacksaw and balanced on scaffolding to assemble the massive works.
