AGNES HANSELLA

A self taught artist, with a background in sound engineering. She was born in Banjarmasin and grew up in Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan. She graduated from her Diploma studies in sound design at Vancouver Film School Canada and earn her bachelor's degree from the Jakarta Institute of Arts, majoring in audio for Cinema. In 2017 she shifted her interest to macramé, and has been knotting ever since. Her work explores materials, patterns and 3D shapes. Agnes now lives and work in South Jakarta, Indonesia.

A MESSAGE TO YOU

ARTJOG Motif Ramalan Jogja National Museum 28 June - 1 September, 2024

200 secondhand cassettes knotted in square knots hanged around 3m tall. Acompanied by Al reading selected lyrics from Indonesian's 70-90s songs. A total of 29 tracks played randomly every 5 minutes that acts as a "prophecy" for anyone who visited the room. When the tracks played from speaker, lights will switch off and change to UV lights to force viewer to listen and ignores surroundings.
